Cocke County authorities say a Newport man was injured just before 8 p.m., Thursday when he lost control of his bike on Campbell Road, off Highway 25E.

Deputy Sgt. Bill Miller said Jason Stewart, 45, Campbell Road, was riding a 2004 Harley Davidson on the gravel downhill grade when he hit bumps in the roadway, lost control, laid down the cycle and slid down the road.

Miller said the cycle is owned by Benny Stewart of Parrottsville, and was heavily damaged in the incident.

The injured cyclist was taken by First Call EMS to the Cocke County Fairgrounds, and from there he was flown by medical helicopter to the UT Medical Center with serious injuries.
