Two New Tazewell men are facing various drug charges after being arrested July 3.

Jason Michel Hopson, 37, of New Tazewell, is charged with driving on a revoked/suspended driver’s license, possession of methamphetamine for resale and violation of probation. A passenger in the car, Andre Tobiahs Goins, 40, also of New Tazewell, was charged with possession of methamphetamine for resale.

According to Sgt. Robert Reed, of the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, a traffic stop was initiated on West Jacksboro Road for a light law violation. Further investigation found that Hopson was operating a motor vehicle on a revoked driver’s license. Reed and Deputy Kolby Mullins, of the CCSO, were given consent to search of the vehicle. Officers located 19.39 grams (0.5 ounces) of meth.

During the course of the traffic stop, Reed discovered $1,215 in cash believed to be the proceeds of illegal narcotics transactions. The investigation is ongoing.

Claiborne County Sheriff Bobby Brooks said efforts by the Sheriff's Office to locate, arrest and prosecute individuals involved in the sale of narcotics will continue. Anyone with any information concerning drug activity or other crimes are urged to contact the Claiborne County Sheriff's Office at 423-626-2501 or 911 in the case of an emergency.
