IDs not yet released by sheriff’s department

Two people were killed in an apparent murder-suicide that the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, authorities said.

Hawkins County Sheriff Ronnie Lawson announced Friday night that a man and a woman were killed in the shooting in Bulls Gap.

As of press time Saturday night, the identities of those killed had not been released.

Lawson said that at approximately 6:54 p.m. Friday the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office received a call of shots fired at Walter Drive residence in Bulls Gap.

Officers arrived on scene and found a 34-year-old woman with a gun shot wound. The woman was transported to Hawkins County Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A man was also found on scene with a gun shot wound and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Lawson said the case is being investigated as a murder/suicide with the man being the shooter.

Lawson said Friday no other information is being released as Hawkins County Sheriff officials continue to investigate.

He said family members were being notified.
