After heavy rains fell Wednesday, the Morristown Fire Department announced the lifting of a burn ban, which had been in place since September.
Morristown Fire Marshal Brian Shepard said the recent rainfall was enough to lift the bans after weeks of little to no rain.
However, Shepard urged caution and reminded residents that burn permits must be obtained.
“As always, a burning permit must first be obtained from the Fire Marshal’s Office before open burning is permissible,” Shepard said. “As a reminder, only natural wood products can be burned. For those residents living outside the City ‘s jurisdiction, the State Forestry Division’s requirements for obtaining a permit before conducting an open burn between the months of October and March are still in effect.”
