Cocke County authorities say they will take a marijuana confiscation case to the Cocke County Grand Jury.
Deputy Lt. Max Laughter said officers went to a residence on Banks Road, Newport, on Monday in search of a wanted subject.
While at the residence, officers allegedly observed 30 marijuana plants, some as tall as 10 feet, growing near the home. When the resident, James Curtis Spence, 30, was told the plants had been spotted, he walked into his home and declined to talk to the officers.
Laughter says after the root balls were removed, the plants weighed a total of more than 23 pounds, and have an estimated street value of $19,000.
