A 24-year-old man who gave a Texas address was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Sulphur Spring and Claude Collins roads, just south of the Highway 160 bypass in South Hamblen County, authorities say.
Iky Leon Lynn Gibson was riding a 2005 Kawasaki JKA northbound on Sulphur Springs Road, attempting to turn onto Claude Collins Road when he lost control of the bike around 6:30 p.m. He rolled off the roadway and collided with a guardrail, according to Sgt. Jason Lowe with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Lowe’s preliminary crash report indicates that possible charges are pending against Gibson. “Alcohol was present at the scene,” the crash. Lowe was airlifted to the Knoxville hospital
Another motorcyclist was flown to UT Medical Center Thursday afternoon after he crashed his bike on Wells Road in West Hamblen County. The crash report was not available by late this morning. Communication broadcast on an emergency frequency indicated the biker had a serious compound fracture of one of his legs and other injuries in the 5:30 p.m. single-vehicle crash.
First responders established a landing zone at Talbott Cumberland Presbyterian Church at the Hamblen-Jefferson county line.
