A Newport man faces charges following an early morning traffic stop in the rain as he drove his John Deere lawn mower on Cosby Road.
Newport Patrol Officer Paul Weber stopped the lawn mower operated by Christopher Green, 55, Frosty Lane, Newport, as he drove at 2:30 a.m. Monday. The officer says there were no tail lights on the mower.
The intoxicated Green said he had consumed a quart of alcohol plus some tequila, but was driving the mower to a convenience store “because he needed to get more beer,” the officer said. The subject had lost his driving privileges as the result of a previous drunk driving offense.
Now Green faces charges of DUI, driving on a revoked license, a light law violation, driving an unregistered vehicle on the roadway and failure to exercise due care.
