A Cocke County man has been taken into custody after he allegedly stole a handgun and then fired on a Carson Springs woman.
Cocke County Deputy Sgt. Wesley Keys said Louis Shelton of Walker Road reported on Jan. 13 he had allowed Micah Lamaster, 21, Jessica Way, Newport, to stay in his home. But that morning, Shelton discovered Lamaster had left. In addition, Shelton said he was missing his Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun.
The following day, Keys responded to Johnson Street on a report from Destiny McKinney that Lamaster had "fired a handgun five times" at her.
Lamaster was found walking nearby on Carson Sprigs Road and was taken into custody. Investigators discovered Lamaster had hidden a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun near a heat pump behind a home on Carson Springs Road. Several 9mm rounds were found on the roadway where Lamaster had been standing when he allegedly fired on McKinney. The suspect was also found to be in possession of five rounds after he was taken to jail.
Lamaster now faces charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.
