‘Madagascar’ hits Walters State stage this weekend

Encore Theatrical Company’s Young Stars will perform “Madagascar” this weekend.

Encore Theatrical Company’s Young Stars take the stage at the Walters State Inman Humanities Complex Theatre in Morristown, from September 6-15, in a family fun musical filled with outlandish characters, adventure galore and an upbeat score that will leave audiences with no choice but to “Move It, Move It!”

Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR follows Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.

Show director Faith Rader, along with music director Laura Ritter and choreographer James Templin, lead the way for 29 young artists and a 20-person production staff and stage crew to bring this non-stop musical to life.

Featured cast members include; Sawyer Stacy (Alex), Jenni Marie Davis (Marty), London Keller (Gloria), Max Davis (Melman), Britney Newman (Skipper) and Hannah Grace Wallen (King Julian).

Encore Theatrical Company’s Young Stars Series is an opportunity for young performers ages 18 and under to participate in a fully staged musical or play. The production is cast entirely with young performers filling all the roles. The cast and crew learn about all aspects of a production - from rehearsals to behind the scenes work.

Encore’s past Young Stars Series shows include “James and the Giant Peach,” “The Lion King,” “Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Camp Rock,” “Captain Louie,” “Children’s Letters to God,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Hairspray Jr.” and “Singing in the Rain.”

The show is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International and is sponsored by R. Kelly and Sheri Foran, Scott and Nikki Niswonger, Terry and Tammy Oglesby, Jim and Connie Pope, Campbell’s Hometown Pharmacy, JTEKT, LeBel Commercial Realty, MAHLE, Main Street Rentals, McKenna Orthodontics, Morristown Dental Center and Tuff Torq.

Reserved ticket seating can be purchased now at www.etcplays.org or at the door on performance days; group and active military/veteran discounts are available.
