The Cocke County Partnership’s Director of Tourism, Linda Lewanski, has been named Tourism Leader of the Year by the Middle East Tennessee Tourism Council.

The Chuck Davis Leadership award is presented annually.

“The neat part about that for me,” says Lewanski,” is that of course Chuck Davis was a resident of Newport. He was the tourism director in Cocke County and also the tourism director for the Morristown Chamber of Commerce but he passed away several years ago. It is especially meaningful for me to get that award that is attached to his name.”

Lewanski has directed the promotion of tourism in the community for the past 17 years, and has been instrumental in making Cocke County a major destination for whitewater rafting. She has her certification as both a Certified Tennessee Tourism Professional and a Tourism Marketing Professional.

The award was presented Friday by Melony Beauchamp, of the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, at a state legislator’s hospitality luncheon, which highlighted the impact of tourism on the 16 county region.
