A Lakeway Achievement Center client, 23-year-old Brandon Lee Byrne, has been charged with sexual battery in connection with an alleged May 21 sexual assault involving a fellow LAC client at a residence on Springvale Road.

The offense with which Byrne was charged is the lowest-level felony, which carries a maximum sentence of two years, according to Detective Sgt. Josh Sipe with the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Department.

The alleged victim, who is in his 40s, was sleeping when Byrne came into his bedroom. The defendant allegedly removed the man’s pants, but left on his underwear while touching the man’s “intimate parts,” according to the detective.

“When the defendant got on top of the victim, while the defendant was laying on his back, (he) covered the victim’s mouth with his hand,” the arrest warrant states. “The defendant did thrust his hips and intimate parts into the victim’s intimate parts.”

Witness statements support the alleged victim’s account of the events, according to Sipe.

The LAC caretaker reported the alleged sexual assault to the sheriff’s department. The defendant was moved to another residence shortly after the allegations surfaced, the detective said this morning.

Late this morning, Byrne remained in the Hamblen County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bond.
