The Jefferson County School system was targeted in a cyber attack, according to Director Shane Johnston.

Johnston indicated the cyber attack affected the school’s email system Tuesday afternoon.

“We encourage everyone, please do not open any email that is suspicious in nature and especially if it refers to the termination of any account,” he said. “Never provide your username or email in any of these cases and make sure that you delete, promptly, the email.”

Johnston said that anyone who has opened one of these emails should reset their Office 365 password immediately, if they have that program on their machine.

For those who don’t know how, Johnston said the password reset can be done through the profile screen under settings.

“Please be patient while our technology department is working diligently to help resolve this problem,” Johnston said. “We appreciate your support and will provide updates as necessary.”
