Jefferson County home destroyed in fire

Members of the New Market Fire and Rescue Team fought a house fire on West Andrew Johnson Highway in Strawberry Plans on Thursday. The single-story house was fully engulfed in flames once first responders arrived on scene. The cause of the blaze is under investigation

First responders from several units across Jefferson County responded to a fire that engulfed a home on West Andrew Johnson Highway in Strawberry Plains on Thursday.

According to Captain Sonny Solomon of the New Market Fire and Rescue Team, responders arrived at a single-story house owned by Jessie King, and rented by Randy and Krystal Atchley, at 5:21 a.m.

By the time firefighters approached the scene, the structure was fully involved in flames. The New Market Fire and Rescue Team was joined by the Jefferson City Fire Department and the Rural Metro Fire Department. Eight apparatuses and 22 firefighters were used to fight the blaze, which took around an hour to control, according to Solomon.

No one was home at the time of the fire. No other structures were damaged, and no road closures were reported.

The cause of the fire is undetermined as of press time, and an investigation is underway.
