A Jefferson County girl who was injured in a Wednesday ATV accident died of her injuries Friday morning.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, around 7:22 p.m., Wednesday, deputies were called to Hicks Road in Jefferson City to the accident. Upon arrival, the victim, identified as LauraBeth Childress, age 15, was being treated by Lakeway Central Fire Department first responders and Jefferson County EMS.
Statements from witnesses revealed that Childress was a passenger on an ATV that was being operated by her uncle in an open field. As he was slowing down, the ATV accelerated.
He swerved to miss a parked cattle trailer when Childress was thrown into the trailer. Childress was transported via Lifestar to University of Tennessee Medical Center where Childress died of her injuries.
