The Hamblen County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that human skeletal remains were found on a hiking trail at Panther Creek State Park.
The remains were found noon Thursday by a hiker, authorities said.
Capt. Chad Mullins, with the Hamblen County Sheriff's Office, said the remains were found on a steep rocky portion of a trail, known as the Lost Road Trail.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation. Mullins said the remains have been taken to the University of Tennessee Forensic Center for further examination.
The investigation is ongoing.
