A Hawkins County motorcyclist died Tuesday night in a high-speed, head-on collision with a Dodge SUV on Austin Mill Road, just west of McDonald Golf Club in Rogersville, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Trooper Anthony Bull identified the deceased as Mark D. Mullins, a 52-year-old Rogersville resident. Funeral arrangements for Mullins had not been announced in Morristown by press time.

Mullins was eastbound around 9:15 p.m., descending a hill in a straight stretch of Austin Mill Road, when he collided “in the exact center of the roadway” with a westbound 2016 Dodge Journey driven by Judyann M. Hottle, a 38-year-old Rogersville woman.

The impact was so severe that the make, model and vehicle identification number of the motorcycle “could not be discerned,” according to Bull’s preliminary crash report. Hottle, the lone occupant of the SUV, was not injured.

No charges have been filed in connection with the fatal crash. The same as for all motorists involved in fatal crashes, the trooper obtained a blood sample from Hottle. The preliminary crash report does not indicate Bull believes alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
