Hamblen man killed in crash

A 24-year-old Morristown man died in a crash on Silver City Road Sunday evening.

According to a report from Trooper Toby Cameron, of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, around 6:36 p.m., Sunday, a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck, driven by Austin McMahan, was driving northbound on Silver City Road when McMahan lost control trying to go around a curve, crossing both traffic lanes into a ditch on the left side. The truck overturned, rolled and struck a guide wire connected to a utility pole and traveled through a chain link fence before coming to a final rest on its top.

McMahan died from his injuries. McMahan was the only person in the truck.

According to Cameron, seat belts would have not made a difference in the crash. Testing for alcohol and drugs have been ordered. The investigation is ongoing.
