Samuel Doak Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution awarded a Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (JROTC) Medal and $50 check to Zane Greene.
Greene, a graduating senior from East High School, served as Flight Commander and was selected to serve as the Corps Superintendent during the spring 2020 Semester.
Greene was recognized as one of the top 10 Cadets from a pool of 178 cadets enrolled in TN-20182 during school year 2019-2020. He is also one of six cadets being awarded our senior rope for outstanding performance in AFJROTC.
The selection of the student to receive the DAR JROTC Award was made by Major Jim Thigpen and Master Sgt. Joshua King who are the East and West High School Air Force JROTC instructors.
The Bronze JROTC Medal is awarded to either a junior or senior student in a secondary school JROTC program or to a Junior College graduating senior.
Medals are worn according to JROTC protocol.
JROTC medals and campaign bars are awarded to student cadets of outstanding ability and achievement in high school, junior college, college, or university JROTC programs of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.
The DAR has awarded JROTC medals since 1967 because the JROTC is such an important source of trained officers for our armed forces.
The selection of the student to receive the DAR JROTC Award is made by professors of military science, principals or heads of schools, junior colleges, colleges, or universities, or by unit commanders.
Recipients must have demonstrated loyalty and patriotism and earned a record of military and scholastic achievement during their participation in an JROTC program. They must be in the upper 25 percent of their JROTC classes and in academic subjects.
They must have shown qualities of dependability and good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of JROTC training.
Not more than one student in a graduating class in a secondary school Junior JROTC program may be the recipient of the DAR Bronze JROTC Medal.
