Editor’s Note: The name of the Holiday Hope Fund recipient has been changed to protect the identity of the family.
Families can come in many forms. No matter the formation of the family, the Citizen Tribune Holiday Hope Fund is there to help.
Due to the bad choices made by the parents, two children, ages 3 and 1, are living with their grandmother, Sarah. They have been with Sarah their entire lives.
In fact, it’s been hard for Sarah to keep her family together. She has two other grandchildren in foster care that she gets to see, but not keep.
And the mother hasn’t made the situation easier. She has been uncooperative to the point she is unwilling to sign paperwork that would allow Sarah to prove she has custody for things like school and doctor’s visits.
Sarah has turned to Central Services before for things like electrical assistance, but now she comes to the Holiday Hope Fund to help her small family have a merry Christmas.
“They make sure that your family and children have something,” she said. “That means a lot. They do their best. A lot of people don’t have a lot or good paying jobs. You have to pinch every penny.
“You want your kids to have more than you had at Christmas, but it’s hard,” Sarah said.
Sarah works, but her job is only part-time. She added that if one has a need, not to be ashamed of it.
