Where do YOU fit in?

Encore Theatrical Company in Morristown recently announced its 13th season of stage productions for audiences in the Lakeway Area and beyond.

The theme of the new season is “ETC 19 Where do YOU Fit In?”

“Finding your place in the world, finding a place in your family, finding your place in a relationship or simply finding your place in life. We’ve all asked these questions and searched for answers,” Encore Managing Director Mike Howard said. “In 2019, we join young friends, families, a zoo full of animals and one of the best known orphans in history all searching for their place. So we are asking people in the community, ‘Where do you fit in?’”

The season opener, Feb. 8-17, is “Green Day’s American Idiot” a two-time Tony and Grammy Award winner. The electric-rock musical of youthful disillusion follows the journey of a new generation of young Americans as they struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 world, accompanied by a score of Green Day’s music. The American rock band was formed in 1986 by lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt and was originally part of the punk scene at the DIY 924 Gilman Street club in Berkeley, California. The show will be directed by Howard and presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International at Walters State Community College. It is rated ‘R’ for strong language and adult themes and situations.

“On Golden Pond” will be presented April 5-14 at Prater Hall, Rose Center. Ernest Thompson’s portrait of Ethel and Norman Thayer returning to their 48th year at their lakeside summer home, facing their golden years and confronting family issues with love and laughter. The show will be directed by Frank Williams and presented in special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service. 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the show’s original Broadway opening on Feb. 28, 1979.

“Mamma Mia!” will hit the stage June 28 through July 7 at Jefferson City High School. The scene is the Greek isle of Kalokairi, where, on the eve of the ceremony, Sophie wants to invite the father she’s never known to her wedding — only to discover that there are three possible choices. The story-telling of ABBA’s timeless songs will be directed by Donna Belisle and presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. “Mamma Mia” is one of the longest running shows in both West End (London) and Broadway history.

The Walters State stage will feature Encore’s Young Stars Series Sept. 6-15 as they present the musical adventure from the blockbuster DreamWorks film, “Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR.” Filled with outlandish characters, adventure galore and an up-beat score, audiences will be convinced to “Move It, Move It!” The show is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

Encore’s season finale will be Lionel Bart’s “Oliver!” The triple Tony-winning, Dickensian theatrical production will be presented Nov. 29 through Dec. 8, in conjunction with Walters State and through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. 2019 marks the 59th anniversary of the original London production (June 30, 1960) which ran for 2,618 performances in the West End.
