With early voting set to end Tuesday evening at 6 p.m., the 2020 presidential primary continues to have more in common with 2012 than 2016.

As of Saturday afternoon, 1,982 early and absentee ballots had been cast in Hamblen County. With two days left in 2016, 3612 had been cast while at the same point in 2012, 1,544 had been cast.

So far Republicans have cast 1,564 votes while Democrats have cast 418. No Democrats qualified for local races, so the voting is entirely for the Presidential Primary on the Democratic side. There are a handful of local contested races on the Republican ticket but no drama for the Presidential primary where President Donald Trump faces only nominal opposition.

The election commission will be open until 6 p.m. Tuesday to accept early voters.
