Chamber Candidate forum set for tonight

The Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Relations Committee will host a candidate forum tonight for candidates seeking to represent the U.S. 1st Congressional District of Tennessee.

A total of 10 candidates will be attending the forum.

The forum will take place at 7 the International Lyceum in the Wade B. McCamey Student Services Building on the Morristown Campus of Walters State Community College, 500 S. Davy Crockett Parkway.

The public is invited, however, due to COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing requirements at Walters State, seating is very limited and the Chamber is asking those who wish to attend, to call the Chamber at 423-586-6382 to reserve their seat and provide their name and telephone number.

Facial coverings will be required, and hand sanitizer will be provided to all guests.

Those candidates who have confirmed their attendance as of this time are Democrat candidate Blair Walshingham and Republican candidates Phil Arlinghaus, Chance Cansler, John Clark, Rusty Crowe, Steve Darden, David Hawk, Chuck Miller, Carter Quillen and Nichole Williams. Other candidates may add their names to the roster before the event.

All candidates have been provided with a list of issues of interest to the Chamber.

They will be given 8 minutes to speak to these issues.

No questions will be taken from the audience.

Keith Andrews, Chairman of the Chamber’s Legislative Relations Committee will moderate the forum.

The entire program will be videotaped and will be shown on the Citizen Tribune’s website, prior to the early voting period which begins on July 17 and up until Election Day on August 6. Those who are unable to attend are encouraged to view the candidate forum online.
