Saturday, October 3, 2020 is the date for the annual Batteries, Oil, Paint, Antifreeze and Electronics residential recycling event. These items should not be tossed in the trash but recycled or disposed of safely.
This community recycling event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at JTEKT Plant 3, located at 5937 Commerce Boulevard in the West Industrial Park. All are welcome to drop off residential items (no businesses please). Volunteers will be on hand to unload your vehicle. Social distancing will also be practiced with masks required.
BOPAE is sponsored by JTEKT, Enterprise Oil and Tuff Torq with additional support by Motion Industries, East Tennessee Iron and Metal, Inc., Cintas, Morristown Iron and Metal and Keep Morristown-Hamblen Beautiful. Residents should bring their BOPAE items, as well as plastic, cardboard and metal for recycling. There will also be a confidential paper shredding service available on site.
Batteries include automotive and rechargeable batteries.
Oil includes motor and hydraulic oils.
Paint collected is latex water-based paint. Oil-based paints should be brought to the Household Hazardous Waste collection event in the spring.
Electronic Waste includes computers, circuit boards and components, fax machines, copiers, printer, scanners, modems, televisions, both cellular and land line telephones, stereos speakers, video game players, microwave ovens and other small appliances or anything with a cord.
Also collected will be fluorescent light bulbs, both tube and compact
This annual event usually collects more than 20,000 pounds of items that can be recycled and disposed of safely, diverting this waste from the landfill and saving everyone in the long term.
