A joint community Ash Wednesday service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at Bethel United Methodist Church in Morristown.

Young’s Temple AME Zion Church and Bethel UMC have collaboratively joined together for the last three years in unity to host an Ash Wednesday service for their congregations and the community.

“Ash Wednesday begins the Liturgical season of Lent,” Pastor Luther Curry of Young’s Temple AME Zion Church said. “It’s the 40 days before Easter (not including Sundays).”

Generally, for the Christian Church, believers can reflect on their individual relationship with Christ to renew and return to Christ, as recorded in the book of the Old Testament prophet of Joel.

The imposition of ashes will be available for those who desire.

It’s an opportunity to worship and fellowship with likeminded followers of Christ. Rev. Ed Cunningham of Bethel and Curry invite the community to come and share in this service as the community prepares to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
