Highway 92 bridge reopens

The Highway 92 bridge over Douglas Lake between Chestnut Hill and Dandridge has been opened to traffic.

TDOT Community Relations Officer Mark Nagi said the $29,106,151.81 project was awarded to Simpson Construction Company. Construction on the project began in December 2015, and the project was to have been completed by Sept. 29.

“All major work is complete and traffic is now aligned in the permanent path of travel,” Nagi said on Thursday. “The contractor has punch list items to finish, along with installing the rest of the lighting system on the bridge, and finishing the thermoplastic stripes.”

Authorities looking for escaped inmate

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office asks for the public’s assistance in the search for an inmate who stole a vehicle from the Jefferson County School Bus Garage shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday morning.

Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Coffey said the vehicle was last seen traveling west on 25/70 near Deep Springs Road.

Inmate Jason Dwight Carr, 35, is described as 5’11” tall, weighing 190 pounds with brown eyes and hair. When he fled, Carr was wearing a white tee-shirt and green striped pants.

Carr was being held on a theft charge and a probation violation.
