An apartment manager and a relative face charges of aggravated robbery when they went to a resident’s apartment and threatened to kill him and another resident while they held a gun to their head, authorities said.
John Benjamin Bradford Jr., 29, and Belford Cagan Golden Jr., 29, both of Elm Street, in Morristown, were being held at the Hamblen County Jail Tuesday morning.
Bradford is the on-site apartment manager at a complex on Elm Street and around 2:40 p.m. Monday he and Golden went to a resident’s apartment and banged on the door, according to an affidavit. The resident woke up, along with a friend and let them in.
Authorities said Bradford cursed them and demanded $50 in addition to rent that had already been paid.
When the resident objected, Golden grabbed a pistol from the pair’s nearby apartment and came back.
He pointed the pistol within inches of the two men’s’ heads, cursed them and demanded money and told them he would kill them, according to an affidavit. Bradford also threatened to kill them, authorities said.
Bradford and Golden told Morristown police officers they did not own a gun.
But when officers searched the apartment, they found a 9 mm Taurus pistol loaded and chambered. Additional rounds were found in Golden’s pocket, authorities said.
