American Legion Post 52 in Morristown is an organization with a mission to serve veterans and the local community.
Its members donate care and comfort items to the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center at Mountain Home and regularly complete projects for individuals as well.
Local projects have included the installation of wheel chair ramps, assistance with the cost of vehicle maintenance, and Post members also built a home for a veteran, and his family, that lost their home in a fire.
Those who have information about a veteran in need can call Post Commander Gary Emery at 423-312-3366.
The ost is also looking to increase its membership.
The regular monthly meetings are open to non-members, or those interested in becoming a member. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Morristown, located at 2435 W. Andrew Johnson Hwy.
The Post also holds a monthly social dinner on the third Tuesday of every month. The dinners begin at 6 p.m. and are held at Davy Crockett Restaurant at 3282 E. Morris Blvd.
Post members will be participating in two upcoming fundraisers, with proceeds to benefit veterans.
The first fundraiser will be held on the east side of Morristown, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 29 at the Walmart Super Center, located at 475 Crockett Trace Dr.
Monetary donations will be accepted, as well as comfort items. Post members will provide lists of specific items that are available for purchase at the store. The items will be collected and delivered to the VA Medical Center.
