From June 24 to 25, the Lakeway Amateur Radio Club will be taking part in “Field Day,” an international event for radio clubs to introduce the public to the world of radio and communications.
Members will demonstrate live emergency radio stations by deploying generators, equipment and antennas on site at the Dumplin Valley Boys and Girls Club grounds off Route 92, Jefferson City, across from the Patriot Hills Golf Course.
The Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) sponsors “Field Day” across North America as both a preparedness exercise and a contest bringing together licensed operators from a pool of over 725,000 “Ham’s” in the USA and Canada. Public demonstrations of this independent communications network will also include the actual building of radio equipment for the digital age at a “makers” table.
Public officials are encouraged to witness this event as communities, including those in East Tennessee and across the nation, have benefited from this volunteer service performed at no cost to the taxpayers.
