Jefferson County authorities have released the identities of the two individuals who died Wednesday morning in a home fire on Scarlett Road outside of Dandridge.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Coffey said autopsies have confirmed the victims as Wilma Foland, 86, and her son, Michael Foland, 57, both of whom lived in the home.
A brother, Kenneth Roland, who lives in a mobile home behind the burned residence said he was awakened by someone yelling at 6:48 a.m. He got up and saw his brother who was standing in front of the burning home. Michael Foland said their mother was still inside the home, and he ran back into the burning residence. Neither the mother nor the brother came out of the home. The residence was not equipped with smoke detectors.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Bomb and Arson Unit is assisting local agencies in the effort to determine the cause of the blaze.
