Details of graduations for Morristown-Hamblen High School East and West high schools were announced this week after a long delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both schools will be holding their graduation ceremonies at Burke-Toney Stadium in an effort to help with social distancing. The planned May graduations were halted after COVID-19 started spreading throughout the country and the Hamblen County school system, along with other school systems across the United States, shut down for the remainder of the year.
West High School is scheduled to hold its graduation at 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 23 and East High School will proceed the next night at 8 p.m. Friday, July 24.
Students will receive four tickets each to give to family members. No one without a ticket will be allowed into the stadium.
The school system is encouraging everyone to social distance at the event by sitting six feet away from other families.
No one will be allowed on the field during the events and there will be a professional photographer documenting the graduations.
Boys should wear dark pants and a collared shirt with dress shoes. Girls should wear a dress or skirt that is not longer than the gown and should be appropriate.
Students should not bring purses, bags, cell phones, cameras or headphones.
Diploma covers will be handed to graduates as they cross the field. Graduates will be able to pick up their official diplomas after the event in the East High School gymnasium.
