The first case of novel coronavirus in Hamblen County was confirmed Friday by Hamblen County officials.

Hamblen County Mayor Bill Brittain said in a release there was a positive test result.

“The Tennesssee Department of Health has notified the Hamblen County Health Department that the first case of coronavirus has been confirmed in the county,” Brittain said. “According to the health department, the patient has been self isolated and the Health Department is following up on the case.”

Brittain said the health department cannot release any more information on the case.

He said the Hamblen County Coronavirus Task Force is closely following the case.

“This is not a time to panic,” Brittain said. “Our task force and medical providers throughout the community are closely monitoring the situation.”

As of Friday morning, there were 154 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Tennessee with three confirmed cases in northeast Tennessee.
