Ready to return from Thanksgiving Break

Hey, Trojans!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break last week, and that you are ready for the remainder of the school semester.

Congratulations to the Morristown West Beta Club for having multiple members qualify for nationals in the State Beta Convention Nov. 21-23. The following individuals qualified for nationals: Macy Noe, Patrick Liposky, Amaya Yarid, Nathan Sia, Matthew Kinsler, Emma Purgason, Emily Gray, Emmie Barnet, Avory Robinson, Faith Kubis, Caitlin Allen, Karcyn Monroe, and Deklyn Manuel.

Advanced choir and concert choir will present “Country Christmas” in the West auditorium on Monday, Dec. 2. Tickets are $5 and the performances will happen during first and third periods.

The Art Club will meet to paint the cafeteria windows Tuesday, Dec. 3. If you are interested, come prepared to paint from 3 – 4:30 p.m.

TNReady testing will start Dec. 4 and 5 with English subpart I. On Dec. 6, U.S. History will also take subpart I.

Furthermore, the forensics team will travel to Johns Creek High School in Johns Creek, Georgia. The team will be depart at 11 a.m.

Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program - Seniors may apply for this scholarship which is a one-time $2,500 award. Criteria include a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrated leadership, commitment to community service, outstanding character and integrity. UT Promise is a last-dollar scholarship for qualifying students who plan to attend any UT campus. Stop by the counseling office if you have any questions or need any assistance.

UT Promise deadline is Dec. 15.

Burger King Scholars is for high school seniors to receive up to $50,000 in scholarships. You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. To apply go to www.bkmclamorefoundation.org/WhatWeDo/ScholarsProgram.

AXA Achievement Scholarship provides high school seniors the opportunity to receive between a $2,500, $10,000, or $25,000 scholarship. Applying senior must be a legal resident, plan to enroll in an accredited 2- or 4-year college/university next fall, and demonstrate ambition and self-drive through outstanding achievement in school, community, or work-related activities. Imagine America Foundation applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, financial need, demonstrated volunteer community service record. Must attend a college that participates in the Image America High School Scholarship Program. Deadline is Dec. 31.

National Wild Turkey Foundation’s Dr. Kennamer Scholarship is for graduating seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA who will pursue a degree at an accredited institution of higher education. Student must support the preservation of the hunting tradition and actively participate in hunting sports. Additional requirements can be found online. The application is available online and in the counseling office.

Deadline is Jan. 1, 2020.

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship is a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years. Student must demonstrate strong academic record, leadership, drive, integrity and citizenship. Apply online at www.reaganfoundation.org/scholarships.

The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program offers “A Constitutional Speech Contest” aims to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. The state winner will receive a $3,000 scholarship, plus an all-expenses paid trip to Indianapolis, Indiana to compete in the National contest (April 17-19, 2020) and a part of the national scholarship pool. In athletic news, the Morristown West basketball team will compete in an away game against Gatlinburg-Pittman High School at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3. On Friday, Dec. 6, they will play a home match against East High School at 4:15 p.m.

The baseball team will host a chili supper at 5 p.m. in the cafeteria prior to the West vs. East game. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Go Trojans!

The Morristown West swim team will compete in a home meet at Carson-Newman University on Tuesday, Dec. 3. This is also their senior night, so be sure to come and show your support.
