Harrogate —The Lincoln Memorial University-Caylor School of Nursing will offer its acclaimed Master of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner and Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner concentrations in an online format beginning in August 2021, the University announced this week.
The online programs will be delivered in a hybrid of asynchronous and synchronous classes with faculty access throughout. Additionally, students will be required to attend limited intensive coursework in person at the LMU-Cedar Bluff site in Knoxville. The FNP program includes two intensives and the FPMHNP requires one. The intensives typically occur at the end of the first semester.
The online FNP concentration prepares nurses in an advanced practice role with competencies in family health promotion. The FNP concentration requires 43 semester hours of graduate course work including a minimum of 660 clinical hours. The program may be completed in 17 months of full-time study or 28 months on a part-time basis.
The online FPMHNP concentration prepares nurses in an advance practice role with competencies in mental health promotion and competent clinical management of common conditions across the life span. The concentration can be completed in 17 months of full-time study or 28 months of part-time study. It requires 44 credit hours of graduate course work including a minimum of 660 clinical hours.
Both concentrations are approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing and have Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing accreditation. The FNP and FPMHNP concentrations have been designed to meet standards for advanced practice education as mandated by the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF).
LMU-CSON will continue to offer a traditional in-person experience for each program as well. The FNP is offered at the LMU Main Campus in Harrogate, in Knoxville, at LMU-Cedar Bluff and in Kingsport, Tennessee at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education. The FPMHNP is offered at LMU-Cedar Bluff.
The LMU-CSON introduced the MSN program in 2006 with a FNP concentration offered on the LMU Main Campus in Harrogate, Tennessee. In 2011, MSN program expanded to include a FPMHNP concentration, offering it at the LMU-Cedar Bluff off campus site. Today, LMU-CSON offers the FNP concentration in Harrogate, Knoxville and Kingsport. Since 2006 more than 500 NPs have graduated from LMU-CSON and now serve in communities throughout Appalachia and beyond.
