Hurricane Watch

Welcome to this week's Hurricane Watch, where we pride ourselves on making sure every parent, student, and staff member here at Mo’East is kept up to date with events and information.

The incoming freshman class currently East Ridge 8th graders will register for next year’s classes April 19-23. Registration for returning Walters States Community College students will be held on Wednesday, April 21, new students enroll Thursday, April 22.

Congratulations to freshmen Madison Black and Landon Link for representing Morristown-Hamblen East High Band at TMEA All-State. The East High School Band made history with freshmen making the All-State cut. We are glad in 2021 to have made a record. First in school history.

A big congratulations to the following Morristown East Speech and Debate students. They will represent the East High Speech & Debate Team at the state championship in a couple weeks. We had 10 students qualify for state, including one district champion. After Dinner Speaking—Carmen Verzosa (district champion), Impromptu Speaking—Abby Courtney and Ahnaf Morshed, Informative Speaking—William Creech and Brayton Moloney, Original Oratory—Marah Chance, Poetry—Maria Puldon, Prose—Alyssa Doty and TV Broadcasting—Oscar Lagunas and Sawyer Stacy

MoEastMerch Store - Check out the new MoEast Merch store for great items to support MoEast WBL. Coffee will be sold at MoEastMerch every morning 8 – 8:30 a.m. Coffee will be $1. Store hours will be Monday and Tuesday 10:30 a.m. – 3:15 p.m., and Wednesday 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

There are only a few yearbooks left to order for the 2020-2021 school year. Cost is $95. You can bring money to Mrs. McClellan or go online at www.balfour.com to place your order.

ACT After School Tutoring Program - Administrators are finalizing an ACT tutoring program at East High School for juniors and seniors. Program fee will be $50, which will be reimbursed if students attend a minimum of 12 dates. Dates have been set and will be April 27 and 29, May 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 and 27 and June 1, 2, 8, 10. The goal of the tutoring program will be to prepare students to take the June 12 ACT Test. See your guidance counselor, Mr. Yeary or Mr. Dempster if interested.

The Morristown Hamblen East High Library is looking for a few creative individuals to produce artwork in conjunction with famous quotes. Find more information about the Library Mural Contest on the library webpage https://mhhse.hcboe.net/library.

Do you want to attend prom on May 22? Are you strapped for cash? Do you need a suit or a beautiful dress? The prom committee may be able to help you out. See Mrs. Fowler in Room 220 for help in making your prom dreams come true.

Bigsun Scholarship

Award: $500

Eligibility: Young athletes who wish to succeed in their academic pursuits. Any capacity of a coach, player or official. Must be a high school senior or attending a post-secondary institute while being involved in some sport at that institution or in the community.

Deadline: June 19
