The Morristown Theatre Guild will kick off its 87th season on Friday with a presentation of the Jones Hope Wooten comedy “The Sweet Delilah Swim Club” at College Square Mall at the former Christopher Banks location inside the mall near the movie theater entrance. Performances will be July 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 8 p.m.
“The Sweet Delilah Swim Club” stars Michelle Welch, Bennie-lee Paul, Terry Colquitt, Anna Taylor and Cathy Lambert.
The play centers around five southern women, former teammates on a college swim team, who set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids, and jobs, they meet at “The Sweet Delilah,” a beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges (men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce and aging) that life flings at them. When fate throws a wrench into one of their lives in the second act, these friends rally around their own with the strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant, surprising direction.
