Morristown Parks and Recreation Department is hosting Starlite Cinemas, their summer movie series, on the Great Lawn at Fulton-Hill Park. The first movie shown will be “The Croods: A New Age,” this Friday at dusk.
Frankie Cox, recreation superintendent for Morristown Parks and Rec., said families should be ready to have a good time.
“We’re so glad to be able to bring families back out into the parks and into events like this,” she said.
Cox said that, unlike last year’s drive-in style movie series that required attendees to remain in their vehicles, families should bring blankets and/or chairs for viewing the movie on the Great Lawn. Fulton-Hill Park is located at 345 East 6th North Street.
There will be a DJ, Robbie Britton from Funville in Greeneville, playing music and entertaining the crowd.
“Because we have to wait until dusk to start the movie, he actually plays music and entertains the group with games and dancing beforehand,” Cox said. “Families get together and have little ‘glow sticks’ and dance and play games and have a good time.”
Snowie of Lakeway will be selling cold desserts and food truck Kurbside Grillin’ will have dinner ready.
“The Croods: A New Age” is rated PG and has a running time of 96 minutes. The DreamWorks website describes the film:
“The Croods have survived their fair share of dangers and disasters, from fanged prehistoric beasts to surviving the end of the world, but now they will face their biggest challenge of all: another family- the Bettermans... …When they take the Croods in as the world’s first houseguests, it isn’t long before tensions escalate between the cave family and the modern family. Just when all seems lost, a new threat will propel both families on an epic adventure outside the safety of the wall, one that will force them to embrace their differences, drew strength from each other and forge a future together.”
The movie features the voice talent of actors Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener and more.
The next Starlite Cinema event will be a showing of “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” on Saturday, June 26.
