Theater returns to the Lakeway Area Friday and Saturday as Encore Theatrical Company has a novel way to present theater in a pandemic.
This weekend, the theater group will have a “drive-through” theater on the Litz Farms Friday and Saturday.
“It’s going to be a family-friendly evening at the theater,” said Encore’s Lisa Biery. “We’re very excited. We feel like this is a great opportunity to say ‘we still love the arts’ and we’re trying to find ways for the community to stay involved.”
Plans have been in works for months to be able to do some kind of performances after COVID-19 spread throughout the state and the United States and left many entertainment venues looking at how to address social distancing guidelines.
Encore has devised a way that people can get out, without getting out - of their cars.
The drive-in will be a combination of a drive-through, a live theater production and a retro drive-in movie theater.
The unprecedented show will have nine different stations. Three to four cars will be let into the farm at one point and they will stop at each station to take place in a live musical performance that will include a five to nine-minute skit by actors.
The cars will then move from station to station watching each skit.
The drive-in will highlight some of the best musical performance the company has done for the past 14 years.
Biery said the various stations will include scenes from productions such as “Madagascar Jr.,’ ‘Lion King Jr.,’ “Sister Act’ and ‘The Producers.’
The show will be from 6 p.m. until dark on Friday and from 4 p.m. until dark on Saturday.
Biery said the Snowy Truck and the Gelato Brothers will be there selling frozen treats as well.
