Encore’s Young Stars present Frozen Jr.

Molly Cox as Anna and Sawyer Stacy as Hans perform in Encore’s JTF production of Frozen, JR.

After a year of planning and patience, Morristown’s Encore Theatrical Company’s Young Stars Series is presenting Disney’s “Frozen Jr.” with an opening performance on Sept. 10 at Jefferson County High School.

With the music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and book by Jennifer Lee, this thrilling and heart-filled adaptation of the classic animated feature is based on the Disney film.

“Frozen Jr.” is the story of two sisters, princesses of the fairy-tale kingdom of Arendelle, who grow apart as they grow up. The elder sister, Elsa, is born with a special gift of magic that she is unable to control and out of fear of harming her younger sister, Anna, runs off into the high mountains after her coronation. Anna, desperate to be united with her sister, enlists the help of the ice deliveryman, Kristoff, and his reindeer, Sven, to bring Elsa safely back to Arendelle.

This tale of love and family is also fraught with dangers from wild wolves and evil neighbors, as well as heartwarming trolls and snowmen who become unsuspecting heroes.

The musical has over 50 characters played by a Young Star Series company of 30 actors ranging in age from 9 to 17 from all over the Lakeway region, as well as Knoxville and Johnson City.

Reprising their “Frozen Jr.” roles from Encore’s 2021 Junior Theatre Festival troupe as Elsa and Anna are Olivia Smith and Molly Cox. Chase Hughes returns to play Kristoff and Sawyer Stacy, again, plays the conniving Hans.

The production team consists of Faith Rader, Greeneville, as director and James Templin, Morristown, as choreographer. The music director is Beth Ann Noble, Greeneville, and the stage manager is Toni Jill Cox, Morristown.

Suitable for all ages, performances will be at the James D. Swann Performing Arts Center, Jefferson County High on Sept. 10, 11, and 18 at 7 p.m. and Sept. 12, 18 and 19 at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $15.

For the safety of actors and others, the ETC is recommending the wearing of face masks and social distancing for audience members.
