“Almost, Maine” by John Cariani is the 2021 opener for Encore Theatrical Company’s “Season of Love.”
Nine modern love stories with a surreal twist, “Almost, Maine,” has become another American classic set in a fictional community in northern Maine.
A woman carries her broken heart in a paper bag. A couple keep the love they have given each other in large red bags. These are two of the many playful and surreal experiences that are commonplace in the world of “Almost, Maine,” where on one deeply cold and magical Midwinter Night, the citizens of Almost experience the power of the human heart.
There will be six in-person performances in Prater Hall, Rose Center on March 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 7 p.m. and March 21 and 28 as Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
In keeping with CDC guidelines, seating is limited. For the actors’ protection, masks are required to be worn by audience members.
