The iconoic sounds of Hitsville USA will fill the West High auditorium Nov. 15-17 as the combined members of the East and West High advanced choirs bring the songs of Motown to the stage.

There will be evening shows on the 15th and 16, starting at 7 p.m. and a matinee on the 17th, according to Brandon Moore, director of the East High Choir.

Moore and his West High counterpart Kathy Bowen will guide about 85 students to put on the two hour show.

“It’s very fast paced, very energetic,” Moore said. “We’ll have 26 of people’s favorite Motown songs from the Temptations, Supremes, Four Tops, Marvelettes and more.”

Moore said 2019 was the right time to bring Motown to Morristown.

“We have done all kinds of shows over the years and we just felt like this was a niche we had never hit and felt like this music is loved by many generations,” he said. “We felt like this is a good, teachable moment for these kids to delve into some of the best music that’s ever been. It’s been a very exciting experience.”

Moore said attendees will hear “I’ll Be There” and “I Want You Back” from the Jackson 5 as well as Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed Delivered” and “Superstition.”

Other songs include:

• “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg”

• “Celebrate” by Rare Earth

• “Dancing in the Streets”

Tickets are $12 for kindergarten age and up. Anyone under kindergarten age will be admitted free.

“This is going to display some of the best talent we have in Morristown,” Moore said. “We have very talented students. They’ve been working hard and it’s an experience that will be good for all ages.”
