John and Ann Carter Bowen celebrated 48 years of marriage on June 17.
They were married at Martha Davis Baptist Church in Jefferson City at a 10:30 a.m. formal wedding in 1972.
They were married by Ann’s uncle, Rev. Cecil C. Millis, of Friendship Baptist Church in Greeneville, and Rev. Ralph J. Miller, pastor of Martha Davis Baptist Church, where John and Ann are faithful members.
John is the son of the late Moss Bowen and Mary Bowen Rucker. He is a graduate of the original West High School in Morristown. John worked in the mines in New Market for several years before he began working at MAHLE Inc., where he retired after 28 years of employment.
Ann is the daughter of the late Pryor Lee Carter Sr., Earnestine Hodge Carter, and Mattie Etter Carter. She graduated from Nelson Merry High School, Carson-Newman University, Union College and Lincoln Memorial University.
Ann retired from service with the State of Tennessee, where she was employed for almost 48 years. She worked with the Hamblen County Department of Human Services for one year as a food stamp certification worker. After that, she taught history in Jefferson County for 10 years. She then spent the rest of her employment with the state, almost 37 years, at Walters State Community College.
They enjoyed a wonderful evening with their children, Roxanne and Jordan Bowen.
