Successful Cherokee Lake Shoreline Clean Up – Despite the Rain!!
May’s weather proved challenging to the Cherokee Lake Users Association Marina Challenge cleanup. Despite those challenges, there was 8,105 pounds of trash collected and over 54 volunteers participated in donating 94 hours of their time.
The CLUA would like to thank the 9 participating Marina owners and managers and their volunteers: Dave Lemon from Gilmore Dock, Dave and Justin Miller from Lakeside Marina, Joe Herral from Black Oak Marina, Richard Shepherd from Wani Village, Sheila and Steve from German Creek Dock, Kim from Hamblen County Dock Cherokee Park, Patrick from Cardinal Cove, Ed from Greenlee Campground and Marina, and Frank from May Springs Dock and Campground.
Thanks also to Debra Stevenson from Morristown’s Keep America Beautiful for donating the water, trash bags, and banners for this event. This year’s prize, a 32” Flat Screen TV, was donated by the Jefferson City Wal-Mart’s manager, Joe Gibson. Jefferson City Lowes manager John Geiardino also donated water and gloves.
Everyone is invited to join the CLUA at noon on Saturday, June 8th, at their Annual Picnic, at Grainger County Park on Lakeshore Road, in Rutledge. RSVP at 423-585-0458. Refreshments will be served. The flat screen TV will be presented to Dave Lemon from Gilmore Dock, for a winning total of 4,240 pounds of trash collected.
