The scenery at Cades Cove has inspired countless artists, whose paintings in turn have stirred the senses of those who appreciate art. Rose Center presents an exhibition of oil and watercolor paintings by one such artist, Sue Messer of Dandridge. “Reflections of an Artist’s Travels” will be on display in the Edith Davis Gallery at Rose Center through July 31. A reception for this exhibit will be held Friday, July 12 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Many of the works are of scenes from the Smoky Mountains, but there are ocean scenes as well, and a few still life paintings. Sue Messer grew up in a small town in eastern Kentucky with a great love of the, her family, the mountains and nature. This influence is gracefully portrayed in many of her works.
Messer hones her lifetime of self-taught skills through workshops and classes in oils, watercolors and acrylics. She now teaches classes in oil and watercolor at the Halls and Carters Senior Centers in the Knoxville area.
Rose Center features two different rotating exhibits per month and a variety of classes throughout the year. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and most Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
