Whitt’s son charged with money laundering in FBC theft case

The other shoe dropped Tuesday in the $1.5 million-plus theft investigation involving First Baptist Church of Morristown and its former longtime financial secretary, Barbara Whitt.

Whitt’s son, Michael D. Whitt, 42, was jailed briefly on a state money-laundering charge.

Mr. Whitt allegedly ran through almost a third of the money his mother is accused of stealing — more than $450,000 — in a 34-month spending frenzy that began in July 2007, according to Detective Cpl. Bob Ellis with the Morristown Police...
