Martial Arts School Celebrates State Champions
Morristown, TN – Year after year, Summit ATA martial artists strive to kick and punch their way to the top. This year, thirteen students under the guidance of Dr. & Mrs. Cordry of Summit ATA Martial Arts (located in the College Square Mall) have managed to earn the coveted title of Tennessee State Champion by competing in tournaments across the United States and successfully acquiring more points during the 2012-2013 tournament season than anyone else in their age group and division. All were eligible to compete in the ATA Southeast District Championships in June 2013. The State Champion Winners this year are Taylor Greenlee, Noah Parrish, Jackson Collins, Payton Yanok, Alex Bermuda, Heather Barnett, Carlie Barnett, Duncan Cordry, Jeff Burleson, Mrs. Melynda Cordry, Andrea Aguilar, Marsha Aguilar, and Erika Aguilar. The following students also qualified for the ATA Southeast District Championships that were held earlier in June: Sable Burnside, Lakin Burnside, Raiden Stephens, Trystan Beach, Nathan Mulneix and Blake Burleson. Medal winners at the District Championships (which included competitors from North & South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee) were Sable Burnside – 3rd Place Combat Weapons Sparring, Taylor Greenlee – 3rd Place Combat Weapons Sparring, Jackson Collins – 2nd Place Combat Weapons Sparring, 3rd Sparring, Jeff Burleson – 1st Place Sparring, 2nd Place Combat Weapons Sparring, Melynda Cordry – 1st Place Combat Weapons Sparring, 2nd Place Sparring, 3rd Place Traditional Forms and Weapons.
