HCS, Modern Woodsmen of America award winners of speech contest

Hamblen County Schools recently held a two-day speech contest sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America.

The contest theme was “a person who has overcome,” and the contest was divided into east Hamblen and west Hamblen competitions.

Union Heights Elementary fifth-grader Sarah Jones won first place for the east end schools.

Runner-up was Meadowview Middle School sixth-grader Madison Greene and third place winner was Hillcrest Elementary fifth-grader Curtis Reece.

In the west end contest, first place went to West View sixth-grader Noah Ellis and runner up was West View eighth-grader Dhilah Ramaprasad.

Third place went to Manley Elementary fifth-grader Demir Menguc.

School-level winners from the east end were Chloe Hill of Russellville, Lexi Shultz of East Ridge, Macy Noe of John Hay, Kacey Maye of East Ridge, Makayla Collins of Whitesburg, Sydney Wilder of Russellville, Smiley Cochran of Fairview-Marguerite, Sean Lam of Union Heights, Sheylah Salaza of Fairview-Marguerite, Courtney Fitzgibbon of Whitesburg and Shelby Cross of Meadowview.

School winners from the west side were Aleena Seng of Lincoln Elementary, Sierra Campbell of Alpha, Heidi Campbell of Alpha, Grace Beaty of West Elementary, Abby Siddiqi of All Saints, Nathan Sia of Manley, Chloe Livesay of Witt, Martina Hoffa of Lincoln Middle, Mallory Sawyer of All Saints, Chloe Bolling of Witt, Dominique Hazeltine of Lincoln Elementary, Hannah Adams of Lincoln Middle and Taylor Simmons of West Elementary.
