Owl Prowl Weekend – Pineville, Kentucky @ Pine Mountain State Resort Park

NOV. 11-12 – Pineville, Kentucky – Owl Prowl Weekend at Pine Mountain State Resort Park. The event kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday with “Pellet-ology” where participants will dissect and examine owl pellets with the park naturalist and take a closer look at the owl’s diet. The cost is $5 per person. At 2 p.m., Saturday, master falconer Mitch Whitaker, from the Letcher County Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, will present the free “Birds of Prey” where participants can observe top predators. At 7 p.m., Whitaker presents “Owls of the Night,” which delves into the world of these nocturnal hunters. Live owls will be on hand. The cost is $5 per person. At 8 p.m. Saturday, there will be a caravan from the lodge to the former campground area to take part in an owl prowl walk with rangers from both Pine Mountain and Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. Participants are reminded to take a headlamp or small flashlight (a red light is preferred), dress for the weather and to take binoculars.
