 trong>TOWNSEND – Maryville-Alcoa Rotary Club will host the third annual “S
 ummer Storytelling and Music” celebration on Saturday\, Sept. 15\, at 6 p.
 m.\, at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend.</p>\n<p> Th
 e celebration is made possible through funding by the Tennessee Arts Commi
 ssion\, by members of the Alcoa and Maryville Rotary Clubs\, and by Alcoa 
 Walmart. Presenters include Lloyd Arneach\, Randy McGinnis and Elizabeth R
 ose.</p>\n<p>Lloyd Arneach is an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Ch
 erokee Indians and was born and reared on the Cherokee Reservation in Cher
 okee\, NC. He learned his first legends from two storytelling uncles on th
 e reservation and presents his stories in a style that is humorous\, infor
 mative and extremely moving. Lloyd’s stories</p>\n<p>range from the ‘old s
 tories’ of the Cherokee to contemporary stories collected that include cre
 ation stories and</p>\n<p>stories from behind the scenes of the film “Danc
 es with Wolves.”  In addition to telling stories\, he lectures on  Cheroke
 e history and culture in schools\, universities\, libraries\, museums\, hi
 storical societies\, and civic groups.</p>\n<p>Randy McGinnis is a Cheroke
 e born into the Deer Clan and currently lives in Knoxville with his wife M
 arsha. A popular performer and teacher at the Heritage Center\, he favors 
 the songs he heard as a small boy. He founded the Smoky Mountain Flute Cir
 cleinTownsend\,TN\, is founder of Echota Technologies in Alcoa\, and has b
 een recognized by the State of Tennessee as Small Business Owner of the Ye
 ar. He has also received recognition from the award-winning and nationally
  known Native American flautist R. Carlos Nakai for his promotion\, preser
 vation and education of the Native American Flute.</p>\n<p>Elizabeth Rose\
 , in addition to being a professional storyteller\, is principal of Cherok
 ee Middle School in Kingston\,Tennessee. She serves as the Executive Direc
 tor of the National Youth Storytelling Showcase and is the</p>\n<p>state l
 iaison forTennessee in the national Storytelling Network. She provides wor
 kshops for teachers on teaching children to tell\, on storytelling in the 
 classroom\, on presentation skills\, and on teaching strategies and best p
 ractices. She also does workshops for adults and children\, including mini
 ng family stories\, folklore\, and storytelling as a performance art.</p>
 \n<p>Tickets are $5 and available at Alcoa Wal-Mart and the HeritageCenter
 in Townsend. Children under 10 and GSMHC members are free.  Food and soft 
 drinks by Wal-Mart will be available for purchase on-site.</p>\n<p>The Her
 itage Center  is located between the Townsend traffic light and the nation
 al park entrance\, on Scenic Highway 73.</p>
