p>\n<p align='center'><strong>The role of Knoxville in the Civil War: What
civilian life was like in a city of divided loyalties from 1861 to 1865\,

\n<p><strong>The presenter: Dennis Urban\, </strong>who is the Vise Presid
ent of the Knoxville Civil War Roundtable. He is retired from the Oak Ridg
e Institute for Science and Education as an Emergency Management Technical
Expert. I have been a Kingston\, TN resident for the past 9 years.  I spe
nd 35 years in the active fire service with my last service as a chief off
icer and fire chief in Montgomery County\, MD.   I am a graduate of the Un
iversity of Maryland\, College Park. My interest in the Civil War extends
from my early childhood in the Maryland suburbs of Washington\, DC where I
grew up. I have been collecting Civil War artifacts and conducting indepe
ndent research for many years. Since coming to the Knoxville area with no
knowledge of the history of East TN\, I have been fascinated with the uniq
ue history of the region\; its divided loyalties before\, during\, and aft
er the war\; and its many colorful characters.</p>\n<p><strong> </strong><
