WSCC CNA class added in Claiborne
The Walters State Office of Workforce Training will offer a certified nursing aide (CNA) class in Claiborne County beginning Aug. 26. This class is offered through a partnership between Walters State Community College and Claiborne County Hospital.
A CNA works under the supervision of a licensed or registered nurse and provides direct patient care. A CNA may work in a nursing home, hospital or home health agencies.
Duties include taking vital signs, assisting with meals, personal hygiene, and other patient needs. This class trains graduates for entry-level jobs.
This noncredit class has three components and includes classroom lectures, classroom skill laboratories and 35 hours of supervised patient care in a long-term care facility. Classes will be held at the Walters State Claiborne County Campus and at Claiborne County Hospital.
Students must be 16 years of age, have a CPR for Healthcare Providers certificate, have a TB skin test and proof of an MMR vaccination.
A background check is required by the clinical site.
The cost of the class is $699.
The class will meet from 4-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Nov. 4.
At the completion of the class, students are eligible to take the State Certification Examination for Nurse Aides.
